If you haven’t done so yet, you’ll want to winterize right away! It is time to drain and disconnect, and more. Tick tock, tick tock! Winter in Placerville is just around the corner.

One of the first tasks is cleaning your gutters. It’s good to make sure your gutters and downspouts are clean and working properly because this can help you avoid bad things like ice dams or leaks. But don’t forget about your sheds!  Make sure they are in good shape and free of pine needles, leaves, nests, and also animals!

The last thing you want in the middle of winter is a burst pipe. Take precautions with outside hose bibs and faucets. If you can, shut off the water to the outside faucets and open the valves to drain any water. That even goes for faucets that are designed to withstand freezing temperatures. Insulated covers on outside spigots help a lot.

In addition to spigots, it’s important to take the time to drain hoses, sprinkler systems, pressure washers, and FOUNTAINS to ensure water doesn’t freeze inside them–not good. Store everything you can in clean, dry, and ready-to-use condition. If possible, oil your garden tools for storage. In Spring, you’ll be so glad you took the time.

And finally, you may as well grab a bag of salt for the walkways! Brrrrr!
